Frankincense is amazing, fabulous and wonderful, ok I may have an obsession! It is truly a multipurpose power house of oily goodness! Ok let's get to it, Frankincense essential oil comes from the resin, the resin comes to the surface when there has been a wound to the surface of the Boswellia tree, that tells me a lot about the nature of the oil right there. It has a resinous and rich aroma that grounds and calms the mind, supports the immune system and is also wonderful to add to skincare products for scarring, anti-aging, nourishing dry skin etc. I love to use it in my moisturizer and often just inhale it for the mood enhancement. Frankincense, Boswellia carterii, belongs to the Monoterpenes, Sesquiterpenes, Monoterpenols, Sesquiterpenols chemical families which is great because that covers such a wide range of therapeutic properties. It is steam distilled and as I mentioned previously great for use with skin, but also great for use in meditation, for mental focus, immune support, pain and inflammation, and it has also been used for generations in traditional medicine for its effects on mood.

Can you see why I just LOVE Frankincense!?  Frankincense has had a great affect on things like headaches and I love adding it to an inhaler for use when a headache comes on. Frankincense blends well with coniferous and citrus oils, but also with other resins, such as Myrrh, spicy oils, especially Clove and Ginger, and intense florals such as Jasmine and Ylang Ylang.

Here is a great recipe for headache and neck tension using Frankincense:
  • 3 drops of Lavender (Bulgaria)
  • 6 drops of Frankincense
  • 2 drops of Rosemary ct camphor
  • 1 drop of Eucalyptus Globulus
  • 1 drop of Helichrysum Essential Oil (Corsica)
  • 1 ounce of unscented lotion or carrier oil of your choice I like to use Organic Jojoba which is also nourishing to the skin.
  • Blend together into your 30 ml (1 ounce) glass bottle and apply to back of neck, temples, or inhale as tension arises.
What are some of your favorite ways to use Frankincense?
